Sustainable Tourism
Lessening the impacts of tourism to preserve the area for the future.
Established in the 1850’s as Australia’s first seaside resort, Manly has a long history of tourism. But without management strategies in place, continued growth of the tourism industry in Manly could be unsustainable and result in a degraded environment.
Manly Council is committed to managing the impacts of tourism. In 2005 Council introduced Sea Change for Sustainable Tourism,
Sea Change for Sustainable Tourism
This innovative education program and accreditation scheme has been developed specifically to improve the environmental, social and economic performance of the tourism business sector in Manly.
The program is free to local businesses and involves undertaking a complete business sustainability assessment and development and implementation of a fully operational environmental management plan (EMP).
Businesses who participate in the program are eligible for endorsement under the programs 5-star accreditation scheme.
