The Little Manly & Forty Baskets Coastline Management Plans (CMPs)

The CMPs develop a blueprint for the future management of the Little Manly and Forty Basket study areas. The Coastline Management Plans will be used as an important resource to guide community action and to assist government and the local planning authority in the ongoing management of the coastal reserve and foreshore areas. 

These Coastline Management Plans have been developed in response to legislative requirements and community issues in accordance with current best practice for the management of coastal and estuary foreshores. 

The Coastline Management Plans: 

  • Provide a sustainable long-term management strategy for the Little Manly and Forty Baskets area.
  • Determine how limited resources can be best utilised to balance environmental conservation and the enjoyment of the areas by user groups.
  • Develop strategies to fit into the conservation of the natural environment to benefit current and future generations.
  • Include a landscape masterplan accompanied by appropriate and sustainable management actions.

The Coastline Management Plans are intended to be a strategic plan for the study areas with a long-term time frame of 10-20years (with appropriate revisions). Implementation of the CMPs will involve considerable expenditure and therefore implementation must have regard to resource availability and to other priorities of Council and the other agencies identified in the Action Plan. 

To be successful the Coastline Management Plans must have the knowledge and support of the whole community. As such Manly Council actively involved representatives of the community, in the preparation and review of the plan as well as incorporating public comment received during exhibition in May-June 2004 prior to the plan being finalised and adopted. Council encourage the residents to become involved in the management of their local area. 

Copies of the Coastline Management Plans are now available at the Manly Environment Centre and Manly Library.
