McWilliams Mount Pleasant
Explore the world of Mount Pleasant
The Birthplace of Australian Winemaking, Mount Pleasant was established by legendary winemaker Maurice O’Shea in 1921. Located in the parish of Pokolbin in the lower Hunter Valley, the Estate boasts some of the world’s oldest vines, including the Old Hill Vineyard planted in 1880, the Old Paddock Vineyard planted in 1921 and the Rosehill and Lovedale Vineyard’s planted in 1946. Maurice O’Shea was blessed with a remarkable palate. He was a master blender with a tremendous ability to identify quality and longevity in young table wines. This was achieved in an era when fortified wines dominated the Australian market and very few Australians understood or appreciated table wines.
Whether you are just starting your journey of wine discovery or you are well versed in the wonders of wine, a trip to Mount Pleasant is a must for all visitors to the Hunter Valley.Consistently listed as a Red 5-Star Winery, our wines are known as regional benchmarks, from individual sites, and are unique Australian styles. The wines are an embodiment of the Hunter region and our Chief Winemaker, Jim Chatto who, along with his team at Mount Pleasant, works to maintain and protect the same principles Maurice O’Shea employed nearly a century ago. With an eye on the future and respectful acknowledgment of the past, the Mount Pleasant Legend is set to continue, producing iconic wines that are respected the world over.
